NP-QM91 Info-Lithium M Series Battery Review
1/20/2003 - Updated 3/21/2005
| A look at the battery |
This is a 7.2V 4140 mAh rechargable lithium ion battery.
It is large, 1.5" x 2.4" x 2.2" (38mm x 60mm x 56mm), and
heavy at 8 oz, or 227 grams. The NP-FM50, by comparison,
is a 1180 mAh battery, 1.5" x 0.8" x 2.2" (38mm
x 20mm x 56mm), and
weighs 2.7 oz (76g). In other words, the NP-QM91 is three
time the size and weight of the NP-FM50 with 3 1/2 times
more recording time.
The information given by Sony is that the NP-QM91 will provide
up to 380 mins continuous recording time. Obviously, that
depends on the usage. |
| Using the NP-QM91 on Sony's DCR-PC101 |
|
This battery will run all day on a PC101. It seem
to double the size and triple the weight of the camcorder.
Using only the viewfinder, I've been able to record to
5 complete 60 minute tapes, with time to record to another
tape. That's about 6 hours of recording. It is a definite
overkill on a compact camcorder, but when you're taping
all day, you won't have to be reminded of swapping batteries. |
| With Sony's DCR-TRV950 |
For some reason, my TRV950 sucks up battery life. When using
the viewfinder only, the NP-QM91 will last through three 60
minute tapes. When using the LCD, the NP-QM91 will allow me
to record to two 60 minute tapes (almost). Although it appears
that I may have a problem with my camcorder, communicating
to other TRV950 owners reveals
that, I'm not the only one experiencing shorter battery life.
